Checkout-free shopping soon possible in Düsseldorf

The food retailer Rewe announces that it is testing the "Pick&Go" system for the first time in a Rewe store in Düsseldorf. So far, this new structure has been introduced in Cologne, Munich and Berlin.

Customers can pack the desired products and leave the Rewe store without having to pay at the checkout. With the help of modern camera and sensor technology, the purchase is recorded during packing and automatically settled. This is done in cooperation with Trigo Vision Ltd, a company specializing in computer vision technology. "Pick&Go" promotes speed and convenience and simplifies the shopping process.

About the "Pick&Go" system

According to the press release, the stores where "Pick&Go" has already been successfully introduced are running smoothly. Store staff are available to answer any questions from customers.

The cameras and sensors are located in the shelves, among other places. A total of around 17 kilometers of high-speed network cables are used.

For data protection reasons, the images taken during shopping are used exclusively to enable checkout-free shopping. There is no facial recognition.

Rewe Market Düsseldorf

The Rewe store in Düsseldorf, where "Pick&Go" is now being tested, offers around 18,000 items on around 750 square meters.

Jana Sanktjohanser, Project Manager at REWE, explains: "We will be testing the system and shopping processes for a few weeks before our customers are invited to hybrid shopping. We have learned a lot from the previous stores. Nevertheless, we can't do it without an extensive test phase to check all shopping processes under real conditions." The test phase should be completed after Easter this year.

In the future, the store will have 30 employees.
