After a very successful 2022, the DHL Group has now presented significantly weaker figures for the 2023 financial year.
According to the press release, the logistics service provider's turnover amounted to 81.8 billion euros in 2023, compared to 94.4 billion euros in the previous year. The operating result (EBIT) fell from 8.4 billion euros to 6.3 billion euros. The Group's free cash flow excluding net M&A for 2023 is EUR 3.3 billion (2022: EUR 4.6 billion).
The company emphasizes that EBIT and free cash flow for 2023 are significantly higher than in the pre-pandemic year 2019. DHL Group writes that the Group has thus demonstrated its increased earning power even in a market environment that remains extremely weak.
Overall, DHL Group generated consolidated net profit after non-controlling interests of EUR 3.7 billion in 2023. In the previous year, consolidated net profit amounted to EUR 5.4 billion.
Tobias Meyer, CEO of DHL Group, says: "The year 2023 was characterized by a weak global economy and, above all, weak global trade." Its high profitability allows the company to continuously invest in its network, sustainability, digitalization and e-commerce.
Commenting on possible developments in the current year, Meyer explains: "In 2024, we will continue to face major uncertainty factors such as volatility in demand and geopolitical crises. However, we are very well positioned for the opportunities and challenges of 2024."
