Expansion of the logistics area by 23,000 square meters

The German company Siewert & Kau, which operates in the IT distribution sector, has expanded its logistics space in Bergheim by 23,000 square meters to 43,000 square meters plus a further 2,500 square meters for office space. Construction work began in summer 2022 and has now been completed.

This expansion is intended to underline the company's commitment to environmentally friendly technology and energy efficiency. According to the information, the company is also focusing on an efficient and sustainable logistics infrastructure.

According to the press release, several challenges had to be overcome during the construction period, such as supply bottlenecks, price increases and a shortage of skilled workers. Nevertheless, the project was successfully implemented thanks to good cooperation with the partners and in-house project management.

Heat pumps, solar energy and IT infrastructure

The new halls are ten meters high and meet the KfW 40 efficiency house standard. This means that the building only requires 40 percent of the primary energy. A new building that was only constructed in accordance with the minimum legal requirements requires 60 percent more primary energy.

Robert Aussem, Technical Manager at Siewert & Kau, explains: "All buildings are insulated and equipped with underfloor heating. Each of the five new halls has a heat pump with an output of around 400 kW." The heat pumps are powered by the solar panels on the roofs of the buildings. If the heat pumps generate more energy than required, Siewert & Kau feeds the surplus into the general power grid as green electricity and thus makes it available to other consumers.

"Of course, we planned the entire IT infrastructure and installed it ourselves with partner companies," emphasizes Aussem. Siewert & Kau also installed the fire and burglary system with full video surveillance itself.

In addition, 150 new wallboxes were installed to charge the electric company cars.
