Cooperation between Bayer and Papacks
Bayer intends to develop fiber-based packaging as an alternative to conventional plastic packaging. To this end, the Leverkusen-based pharmaceutical and agrochemical group has started a collaboration with Papacks. The Cologne-based packaging manufacturer recently reported on this in the form of a press release.
Accordingly, the fiber-based packaging is to be used for some of Bayer's Consumer Health division products in the future. For Bayer, this should be a step towards ensuring that 100 percent of the packaging for its self-care products contributes to the circular economy and is recyclable or reusable by 2023.
Biodegradable, based on cellulose
The cooperation between Bayer and Papacks aims to develop biodegradable, cellulose-based packaging made from responsible new fibers. According to the packaging manufacturer's press release, Papacks' molded pulp technology will be used. This technology uses materials from renewable sources and a plant-based coating.
Jesse DelGigante, Director of Global Packaging Innovation for Bayer's Consumer Health Division, said: "Reducing plastic consumption is one of the biggest challenges facing our industry, so we are proud to work with PAPACKS to accelerate progress towards the use of environmentally friendly, renewable sources for our packaging."
