Largest investment of over 200 million euros

Beiersdorf AG is starting construction work on a new logistics center in Leipzig, which will reportedly be the company's largest and most modern. It is located in the immediate vicinity of another Beiersdorf plant, which was also recently built. The Group is investing more than 200 million euros in this project.

Completion and commissioning with 450 new jobs is scheduled for 2027. The center will be built on an area of 12.5 hectares. A 25-metre-high high-bay warehouse with around 125,000 fully automated pallet spaces will be built in the warehouse.

Michael Frey, Chief Supply Chain Officer and member of the Executive Committee of Beiersdorf AG, explains: "With these two major projects, we are making a clear commitment to Germany as a business location. Together, they are the largest investment Beiersdorf has ever made at one location."

Leipzig as an ideal location

The warehouse has good connections to the European transport network and is close to the company's production sites.

According to information from Beiersdorf, it will therefore act as a central European hub. Leipzig is ideally located for the supply chain network and for connecting customers in Central Europe. In future, Beiersdorf will be able to supply its retail partners and pharmacy wholesalers with products quickly.

Saxony is also very attractive for investors due to several factors. The federal state offers a large area, qualified specialists and a good technical infrastructure.

Sustainability measures

Beiersdorf's goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2025 compared to 2018 and by 50% by 2032. Finally, the net-zero target is to be achieved by 2045.

According to the information provided, the warehouse contributes to Beiersdorf's sustainability agenda with photovoltaic modules and green roofs and façades.

Beiersdorf wants to obtain LEED certification for the building, an internationally recognized seal of quality for sustainability in building planning.

VAS (value-added services) activities are to be integrated into the logistics center to make Beiersdorf more flexible and focus on sustainability.
