Largest order in the company's history
Fortescue is purchasing numerous construction machines from Liebherr. According to a press release from Liebherr, the two companies signed a corresponding contract at Minexpo in Las Vegas (USA), an important trade fair for the mining industry.
As Liebherr emphasizes, this is the largest order volume in the company's 75-year history. According to the press release, the order is worth around 2.5 billion euros. According to the press release, Fortescue will purchase 475 machines from Liebherr: 360 battery-powered and autonomous dump trucks, 55 electric excavators and 60 battery-powered crawler tractors.
The machines will then be used in Fortescue's Australian mines. The agreement will result in one of the world's largest mining fleets operating completely emission-free, Liebherr writes.
According to Liebherr, the current contract will intensify the existing cooperation between the two companies. Liebherr points out that the partnership has developed from a customer relationship spanning several years.
"We wrote a piece of Liebherr history at MINExpo in Las Vegas and are proud to be able to make an important contribution to decarbonization, but also to the autonomy of heavy-duty machines," said Jörg Lukowski, Executive Vice President of Liebherr-Mining Equipment. He continued: "The technology developed under this contract makes us the first supplier in the mining market to combine an emission-free drive and a fully autonomous transport solution in a mining dump truck."
