Expansion of the range of smart charging solutions
The automotive supplier Mahle has received a series order for a new cooling module in the megawatt charging range.
As Mahle explains, the cooling module is installed in fast charging stations for electric commercial vehicles. The module can also be used in fast-charging systems for cars and light commercial vehicles, in maritime applications or for rail vehicles.
Mahle does not mention the name of the customer in its press release. According to the statements, it is a European cable manufacturer and supplier of megawatt charging systems (MCS). According to Mahle, the customer particularly valued the performance and cost efficiency of the cooling module as decisive factors for placing the order.
The automotive supplier will begin series production of the new cooling module at the end of 2025. The module will be manufactured at the Mahle plant in Namestovo, Slovakia.
"With this innovative cooling module, MAHLE is expanding its product portfolio for intelligent charging solutions and setting new standards in the charging infrastructure for electric trucks and electric heavy-duty vehicles," explained Christian Küchlin, Vice President Mahle Industrial Thermal Systems.
Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS)
According to Mahle, so-called megawatt charging systems (MCS) for electric commercial vehicles are mainly found at service stations and truck stops. Fast charging capacities of up to 3.75 megawatts (MW) are possible per column.
According to the company, the cooling module from Mahle can be adapted to the installation space specified by the customer for various charging stations.
Norman Nagel, Head of Business Development at Mahle Industrial Thermal Systems, said of the module: "In our cooling module, we connect up to four heat exchangers in series, which cool down the waste heat from the cable by drawing in air. Fans transport the air to the outside."
Electrification strategy
In its press release, the Stuttgart-based company emphasizes its technological diversity. According to the company, Mahle is active in three strategic business areas: electrification, thermal management and efficient, sustainable combustion engines. According to the automotive supplier, it develops solutions for various applications worldwide in these areas.
According to its press release, Mahle has placed a focus on electric drives and intelligent charging systems as part of its electrification strategy.
