Milestone for company for alternative engineering applications
South of Mainz in the Hechtsheim district, the Gesellschaft für Alternative Ingenieurtechnische Anwendungen (GAIA) is starting construction of its largest wind turbine. The company is one of the leaders in the field of renewable energies.
The building permit in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Ordinance (BImSchV) was issued by the Mainz city council in July last year. In August 2023, GAIA was awarded the contract by the Federal Network Agency The plant is scheduled for construction in November 2024 and commissioning in late 2024 or early 2025.
GAIA is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Together with the new wind energy plant, this marks an important milestone in the company's history.
Savings of 9,000 tons of CO2
According to the company, the wind turbine comes from the Danish manufacturer Vestas.
The total output is expected to be 6.2 megawatts, making the plant one of the most powerful in Mainz. On average, 4,300 households can be supplied with the electricity generated. The plant will also save around 9,000 tons of CO2 annually.
GAIA announces that the turbine has a hub height of 169 meters and a rotor diameter of 162 meters. This results in a total height of 250 meters.
