65 trains from the Spanish manufacturer Talgo
The mobility service provider Flix is investing up to 2.4 billion euros in its rail division Flixtrain.
To this end, Flixtrain ordered 65 high-speed trains last Tuesday. According to the company, the trains will be built by Spanish manufacturer Talgo. Talgo will also provide certain maintenance services. Siemens will supply the locomotives.
According to Flix's press release, more than EUR 1 billion of the contract volume of up to EUR 2.4 billion has already been firmly committed.
The new trains are intended to drive expansion in Germany and other European countries, writes Flix.
Great market potential
According to the company, the investment decision is a response to the growing demand for fast and affordable train travel. According to Flix, it sees great market potential in Germany and Europe. Rail passenger transport in Germany is expected to grow by 45 percent by 2030 compared to 2021.
By 2024, Flixtrain claims to have already increased its service by 40 percent. For the past year, the company also reports that it has achieved a significant increase in passenger numbers.
André Schwämmlein, CEO and co-founder of Flix, explained: "We are pursuing a long-term strategy with FlixTrain and will significantly expand our offering in the coming years." Schwämmlein continued: "With the significant expansion of our train fleet, we are starting a new era of train travel in Germany and Europe."
