New material for solid-state battery with 100 times higher energy density

TDK Corporation has developed a new material for future solid-state batteries. The Japanese technology group reported on this in a press release last week.

According to the report, the planned next-generation solid-state battery will have an energy density of 1000 watt hours per liter. This is 100 times the energy density of the company's conventional solid-state battery. According to TDK, the higher energy density will be achieved by using an oxide-based solid electrolyte and anodes made of lithium alloys.

Battery for portable devices

TDK says it intends to develop a battery for wearable devices. This battery is intended to replace button cells in wireless headphones, hearing aids and even smartwatches, for example.

Solid-state battery with special priority

According to its press release, TDK intends to further develop the battery cells and the design of the housing structure and drive forward mass production. The technology group emphasizes that the development of the new product, the solid-state battery, is at the forefront.
