Five new openings in the anniversary year
Ikea Germany has now been around for 50 years. On October 17, 1974, the Swedish furniture retailer opened its first German store in Eching near Munich.
Since then, Ikea 's local store network has grown considerably. Now the company is celebrating its entry into the German market fifty years ago with five new openings, among other things. According to its press release, the Swedish furniture store is thus setting the course for the future.
"The concept of large furniture stores with self-collection has made us very successful. Today, it's the mix of formats and channels that makes us unbeatable, because we see that the world and the needs of our customers are changing rapidly," explains Walter Kadnar, Managing Director and CSO (Chief Sustainability Officer) of Ikea Germany.
New planning studios
In September, Ikea opened one of its planning studios in Marburg and one in Rheine. Further planning studios are due to open this year in Stuttgart and Cologne. The furniture supplier will also set up a mobile pick-up station in Lüneburg.
Walter Kadnar comments: "The new IKEA planning studios and pick-up options will make us even more accessible for many people. Even for those who don't have their own car. Our planning studios are centrally located and easily accessible by public transport. They fit seamlessly into our network of stores and digital offerings."
