Search for possible buyer for Ruhr Oel GmbH - BP Gelsenkirchen

BP continues to pursue a global strategy to become a simpler, more focused and higher value company.

In this context, BP Europa intends to examine a possible sale of Ruhr Oel GmbH - BP Gelsenkirchen. In its press release, the group emphasizes that this plan is in line with the aforementioned global strategy.

According to the company, a suitable buyer is being sought immediately. The relevant contracts should be concluded before the end of this year. Refinery operations will continue as usual during the sales process.

Patrick Wendeler, CEO of BP Europa SE, explained: "In a rapidly developing energy market, we want and need to focus. After a thorough review, we have come to the conclusion that Ruhr Oel GmbH can develop its full potential under a new owner."

About Ruhr Oel GmbH - BP Gelsenkirchen (ROG)

Ruhr Oel GmbH - BP Gelsenkirchen owns the two plants in Horst and Scholven in Gelsenkirchen. The company manages these as an integrated refinery and petrochemical site. ROG also operates a tank farm in Bottrop.

In addition to its great significance for the domestic fuel and energy supply, the Gelsenkirchen site also plays an important role in the chemical region of North Rhine-Westphalia. According to the company, the refinery currently has a processing capacity of around twelve million tons of crude oil per year.

ROG also owns 100% of DHC Solvent Chemie GmbH in Mülheim/Ruhr. ROG also has a stake in Maatschap Europort Terminal (MET) in the Netherlands, among others.
