Positive market development in the marine sector
Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), the marine division of the Thyssenkrupp Group, has received an order for two submarines from Singapore.
TKMS and Singapore's Defense Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) signed an agreement to this end on 7 May, as TKMS reported in a press release.
High order backlog
With this order for two type 218SG submarines, the order backlog of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems continues to grow and currently stands at around 16 billion euros, according to the press release. With regard to the current order backlog, TKMS even speaks of a "record order book". The company also writes that the positive market development is continuing in the marine sector.
Oliver Burkhard, CEO of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, says of the current order from Singapore: "The order extension once again underlines the generally positive market situation in naval shipbuilding and gives us the opportunity to further expand our very well-filled order book. We are also proud that Singapore has once again placed its trust in us, as our partnership goes far beyond the production of submarines.
Production in Germany
According to TKMS, it can handle the additional order within the scope of its existing capacities in Germany. According to the press release, this is possible despite the high capacity utilization into the 2040s. The company only received major orders worth billions in December 2024. According to TKMS, these include four type 21CD submarines for the German Navy.
