Study on the shortage of skilled workers in Germany
Why Germany urgently needs qualified immigration.
A study by the Institute for Employment Research and the Coburg University of Applied Sciences shows that the German labor market is dependent on immigration from non-EU countries. This is due to the ageing of society and the decline in the workforce.
Neither the influx of foreigners in recent years nor rising birth rates since 2011 have been able to compensate for this. According to the study, Germany needs 260,000 immigrants per year to meet its labor needs. Immigration from the EU alone is not enough; third countries would have to contribute 146,000 people per year.
Even a higher birth rate or more working women and older people would not be able to meet the demand on their own. An immigration law for skilled workers is intended to bring specifically required qualifications to Germany.
