E.ON increases investments for energy transition

Billions invested in energy grids and energy infrastructure solutions

E.ON recently presented its business figures for 2023. According to the press release, the energy company was able to continue its growth trajectory in 2023. According to its own statement, E.ON achieved a result for the full year that is significantly higher than the previous year's figure.

At the same time, the Essen-based Group announced that it would be Investments by around 30 per cent compared to its previous five-year plan.

Record investments

According to its own statement, E.ON intends to make record investments in the energy transition. According to its press release, the Group plans to provide €42 billion across Europe in the period from 2024 to 2028.

Of this sum, 34 billion euros will be spent on the grid business. Around €5 billion is expected to be made available for the business with energy infrastructure solutions for industry, cities and municipalities. In its press release, E.ON describes this business as a growth business. E.ON also plans to invest in digitalisation projects, the smart meter rollout and intelligent charging solutions for electromobility, among other things.

Marc Spieker, Chief Financial Officer at E.ON, explains: „We will continue on our growth path in the coming years. There are massive expansion plans for renewable energies across Europe that need to be connected to the grid. There are also millions of heat pumps, private electricity storage systems and charging stations.“ This is why E.ON is now investing even more and faster in its electricity grid infrastructure, which is set to grow continuously by an average of ten per cent per year until 2028. According to Spieker, additional investments will also strengthen the basis for further growth in the customer solutions business.
