Largest investment of over 200 million euros

The Beiersdorf AG begins construction work on a new Logistics centre in Leipzig, which according to reports will be the company's largest and most modern. It is located in direct proximity to another Beiersdorf plant, which was also recently built. The group is investing more than 200 million euros in this.

The completion and commissioning are scheduled for 2027, creating 450 new jobs. The centre will be built on a 12.5-hectare site. The warehouse will feature a 25-metre-high High bay warehouse erected with approximately 125,000 fully automated pallet parking spaces.

Michael Frey, Chief Supply Chain Officer and member of the Executive Committee at Beiersdorf AG, explains: „With these two major projects, we are making a clear commitment to Germany as a location. Together, they represent the biggest investment Beiersdorf has ever made at a single site.“

Leipzig as an ideal location

The warehouse has good connections to the European transport network and is close to the company's production sites.

Thus it will act as a central European hub, according to information from Beiersdorf. Leipzig is ideally located for the supply chain network and for connecting with customers in Central Europe. In the future, Beiersdorf will be able to quickly supply its trading partners and wholesale pharmacies with products.

Furthermore, Saxony is very attractive to investors due to several factors. The state offers a large area, qualified skilled workers, and good technical infrastructure.

Sustainability measures

Beiersdorf aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2025 compared to 2018, and by 50 percent by 2032. By 2045, the net-zero target is ultimately to be achieved.

According to the information, the warehouse contributes to Beiersdorf's sustainability agenda through photovoltaic modules, as well as green roofs and facades.

Beiersdorf aims to obtain LEED certification with the construction, an internationally recognised seal of approval for sustainability in building design.

Value-Added Services (VAS) are to be integrated into the logistics centre to make Beiersdorf more flexible and to focus on sustainability.
