Acquisition of the majority of the German beef business

The Tönnies Group of Companies takes over part of the German activities of the Dutch Vion Food Group.

According to Vion, the two companies have signed an agreement in principle on the purchase of the majority of Vion's beef activities in Germany.

According to its own statement, Vion had already announced in January of this year that it would German business review. The planned transaction is now a result of this and supports the Dutch group's strategic focus on the Benelux region. The planned takeover is expected to be completed in 2025.

According to Vion's press release, Tönnies is buying the beef activities in Buchloe, Crailsheim (including pork) and Waldkraiburg. According to the company, the transaction also includes the cutting plant in Hilden, the hide processing plants of BestHides in Memmingen and Eching-Weixerau as well as the majority of Vion's German support activities.

Maintaining existing supply chains

The takeover by the Tönnies Group ensures that these business areas will continue to be successfully operated and expanded, writes Vion. The existing Supply chains and customer relationships should be maintained.

Ronald Lotgerink, CEO of Vion, explains: „This proposed transaction is an important step in the strategic realignment of Vion. We are committed to finding the best partners to successfully develop our sites while increasing our investments in the remaining businesses. With this deal, we are taking another step towards realising these promises.“
