DHL Group accelerates its path to climate neutrality

Key measures for reducing emissions

According to a press release, the DHL Group has made significant progress toward its goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. According to DHL, a key focus is on the use of sustainable fuels.

In air freight, DHL says it is increasingly focusing on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and has signed a large-volume agreement in the US that will significantly reduce CO₂e emissions across the entire life cycle. DHL also plans to promote the use of sustainable marine fuels in maritime logistics in collaboration with partners such as CMA CGM.

At the same time, the company plans to invest in new drive technologies. Hydrogen-powered trucks are being tested as a solution for low-emission long-distance transport, including in a new pilot project in the Middle East. According to the company, DHL is consistently focusing on electric mobility for the last mile: in Germany, deliveries are increasingly emission-free thanks to a rapidly growing fleet of electric vehicles.

Investments in sustainable infrastructure

According to the press release, in addition to transport solutions, DHL is investing heavily in energy-efficient and self-sufficient logistics locations. One example is a new warehouse in Thailand that covers its entire energy requirements with its own solar power system and battery storage. Such projects are intended to combine sustainability with security of supply and serve as a model for future logistics infrastructure.
