Christoph Keese joins as co-founder
According to Commvisory, the European defense platform BASED is entering a new phase of growth and expanding its management team: media entrepreneur and investor Christoph Keese is becoming co-founder.
The platform emerged from the Munich Security Breakfast in 2024 and connects defense and dual-use start-ups, industry, investors, and public sector buyers to bring innovations to market faster.
Strategic importance for Europe's security
According to Commvisory, BASED sees itself as an operational infrastructure for building a powerful European defense ecosystem. The aim is to strengthen Europe's technological sovereignty, resilience, and defense capabilities in the face of growing geopolitical tensions.
With support from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Federal Ministry for Digital and Public Administration, the platform will serve as de:hub Security & Defense.
Experience and network for the next phase of growth
Christoph Keese brings with him many years of experience in media, digitalization, and venture capital. Among other things, he was editor-in-chief of the Financial Times Deutschland and Die Welt, and co-founder of POLITICO Europe.
His appointment is intended to expand BASED's strategic reach, mobilize capital, and scale innovation in the European security and defense sector.
Networking as the key to the defense ecosystem
BASED was initiated by Lippold von Oldershausen. The platform aims to create a structured network that connects politics, industry, research, and investors in the long term.
By expanding the platform, BASED aims to accelerate innovation and establish one of Europe's most effective defense ecosystems.
