Tapping regional potential in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Gascade, a German transmission system operator (TSO) specialising in the transport and storage of natural gas, is planning to complete a new Hydrogen pipeline This will enable the surrounding regions to be supplied with green hydrogen from the HyTechHafen Rostock in future. Gascade and rostock EnergyPort cooperation GmbH (Repco) have signed a letter of intent for this project, according to the press release.
Rostock and Lubmin have proven to be an ideal location for the production and import of green hydrogen was emphasised. Together with the „Flow - making hydrogen happen“ project, the new management will utilise the advantages in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and thus further develop the region.
About the new pipeline
According to the information, the aim of the pipeline is to create a hydrogen hub in the Baltic Sea coastal region.
The hydrogen pipeline is to be around 120 kilometres long. It will also connect the 100-megawatt hydrogen project HyTechHafen Rostock with the planned hydrogen core network in Wrangelsburg near Lubmin.
From there, the hydrogen is transported onwards to important consumption regions, with the help of Gascade, among others.
Future prospects
Ludger Hümbs, Head of Corporate Development at Gascade, explains that the planned pipeline will make an important contribution to opening up eastern German conurbations to hydrogen. To achieve this, the hydrogen must be transported to end consumers cost-effectively and efficiently.
Ralf Tschulik, CEO of Repco, emphasises that the pipeline will help to overcome the challenges of the energy transition.
Other large companies such as Lhyfe are planning to open a production facility for green hydrogen in Lubmin, the pipelines for which are to be built by Gascade.
