The initial situation:
Founded at the beginning of the last century, GEWA Etiketten mainly produces labels for wine and spirits producers. The company is now one of the leading manufacturers in the industry and sells labels throughout Europe. It produces both very small quantities and batches in the millions. In order to stabilise and expand its market position, Kloepfel Consulting was commissioned to check and optimise the conformity of market prices. By strengthening the purchasing department, the client hopes to gain a competitive advantage in the highly competitive labelling market. The challenges faced by Kloepfel Consulting were, on the one hand, that the data situation was rather incomplete at the start of the project and, on the other hand, that GEWA has various customers who specify materials from specific manufacturers. These specifications significantly increased the demands on the consultants.
Solution:
Firstly, Kloepfel Consulting carried out a data survey in the various product groups to be processed in order to subsequently identify potential either through tenders or negotiations with the existing suppliers and then realise this potential in coordination with GEWA Etiketten. In some areas, it has been possible to achieve significant cost reductions by bundling suppliers. Good results were achieved in the areas of B and C articles and services in particular. To summarise, it can be said that the project objectives of GEWA Etiketten were achieved.
