Rheinmetall: New plant in Hungary

Production for civil and military business areas

The Düsseldorf-based technology group Rheinmetall is building a new plant in the Hungarian city of Szeged. Factory. According to the company, this is a so-called hybrid site. According to the press release, it will be used for both the civilian business and the Group's defence technology activities. The Location is part of Rheinmetall's Power Systems division, according to the company.

300 new jobs

The ground-breaking ceremony took place on 26 March 2024 and the factory is scheduled to be ready for operation in August 2024.

The site has an area of 85,000 square metres. In a first step, a plant with a floor area of 15,000 square metres will be built there, according to the press release.

According to Rheinmetall, it plans to create up to 300 jobs at the site. The Group is quoting a total investment volume of 63 million euros.

Especially products for the automotive sector

According to the press release, the technology company plans to use the new site primarily for the production of the Automotive division. Among other things, electrical components such as nanostructure capacitors and products for the use of hydrogen in mobility and energy generation are to be manufactured in Szweged.

In addition, around ten per cent of the production area is earmarked for the military business of Rheinmetall's Electronic Solutions division.

Christoph Müller, CEO of Rheinmetall's Power Systems division, explains: „Szeged, the ‚City of the Sun‘, will be Rheinmetall's fourth location in Hungary after Budapest, Zalaegerszeg and Várpalota. We are grateful and proud of the trust that the Hungarian government has placed in us as a partner in the civil and defence industry.“
