Mechanical engineering
KLOEPFEL Advanced Procurement is your lever for measurable purchasing optimization in mechanical and plant engineering.
Companies in the mechanical and plant engineering sector are currently facing a number of structural challenges. Volatile raw material prices make planning more difficult, technological upheavals and new ESG requirements demand rapid adaptation, and dependence on a small number of suppliers entails additional risks. At the same time, unclear processes, a lack of digitalization and growing regulatory pressure - for example due to the Supply Chain Act - prevent efficient, resilient procurement. This results in unnecessary costs, decreasing flexibility and strategic blind spots in procurement.
Using advanced procurement methods, we support you in establishing second sources, digitalizing procurement processes, adapting supplier strategies and making your purchasing organization more resilient. Together, we secure supply, reduce costs and create transparency for better decisions.

With KLOEPFEL Advanced Procurement to maximize
- Involved right from the start: We support you in project purchasing and integrate ourselves from day 1 of product development in order to think through purchasing strategies at an early stage and set them up optimally.
- Holistic and in-depth analysis: We take a comprehensive and systematic look at purchasing and cost structures, procurement processes and total costs in mechanical engineering.
- Technical sourcing: We analyze components based on technical specifications, cluster them according to product groups and determine the ideal supplier for each category. This enables us to find the ideal technical and economical component for every requirement.
- Out-of-the-box thinking: We question existing procurement and thinking patterns, develop unconventional solutions and thus create space for innovative purchasing strategies with measurable added value.
- Technical Engineering: We provide support through cost calculation, value analysis and optimization of product design and manufacturing processes.
- Matrix creation: We analyze and structure the existing procurement process using transparent evaluation matrices in order to uncover weak points and enable well-founded, comparable purchasing decisions.
- Financial stability and risk minimization: We analyse liquidity-enhancing measures such as logistics concepts, discount potential and framework conditions as well as potential risk suppliers along the supply chain.
- Supplier screening and analysis: We carry out a comprehensive analysis of existing suppliers and check whether the right criteria and analyses are being used to select and evaluate suppliers.
- Detailed information: All suitable suppliers receive relevant technical information and can therefore submit bids promptly and accurately during the tendering process.
- Triangle of success: We analyze the customer's products and optimize the engineering process by adapting supplier methods without compromising quality. We use our technical expertise to reduce costs directly on the product. This is followed by the tendering process, where engineering, project work and sourcing work together perfectly to achieve the best results.
- Testing and qualification of new suppliers: We subject potential new partners to thorough pre-qualification in accordance with the proven Kloepfel standards. In doing so, we ensure that all relevant quality, performance and safety requirements are met in order to build long-term partnerships.
- Conserving resources: By taking on the important preparatory work, we take the pressure off your team and help to conserve resources in a targeted manner. This allows you to use your time and capacities more efficiently.
- Scenario building and supplier strategy: We develop customized supplier strategy scenarios and work with you to define the long-term direction. We take into account market trends, risks and opportunities in order to create the optimum supplier structure for your needs.
- Complementary support from our negotiation team: Our negotiation team actively supports us in bilateral negotiations in order to achieve optimal results and efficiently represent all relevant interests.
- Support during changeover and implementation: We accompany all steps of the changeover and implementation and ensure smooth integration into existing processes.
- Contract management: We support you in concluding supplier contracts by taking into account all relevant business aspects and ensuring that the agreements are efficient and sustainable.

Our success stories:
Cutting tools
Our customer, a mechanical engineering company with a large vertical range of manufacture and several locations, was faced with the challenge of optimizing the high procurement costs for cutting tools. Procurement was decentralized, which led to inefficient processes and higher costs.
The main aim was to reduce costs, bundle the requirements of all sites and improve production costs and machine running times. We were able to reduce overall costs by 8.3% and cut cycle times by 19%, while maintaining the same tool life.
Turned and milled parts
Our customer, a global market leader in the field of measurement and control technology, produced recurring turned and milled parts that were used in measuring equipment in-house. Due to the economic unprofitability of this in-house production, a reduction in internal production was sought and outsourcing was considered.
The aim was to optimize the costs for the recurring turned parts, establish alternative suppliers and ensure reliable security of supply. We were able to achieve a saving of 61% and security of supply was ensured through alternative suppliers.
Geared motors
Our customer, a leading global manufacturer of special machine technologies, had been purchasing geared motors for dosing chemical substances from a single development partner for decades. Constant price increases could not be fended off, as there was a close dependency on a monopoly supplier with complete product know-how.
The aim was to reduce this dependency, establish a second source and improve the cost structure. Our work enabled us to achieve savings of over EUR 657,000 or 44% for 12 months and successfully qualify a second source of supply.
What our customers say:
"Tasks were implemented with a high level of technical understanding, in a practical manner and to our complete satisfaction. As a result, savings were achieved that clearly exceeded our expectations."
"It was important for our specialist departments not to have a negative impact on quality standards despite cost savings. Kloepfel Consulting achieved this very well in the implementation of the project."
"For Perrin GmbH, the cooperation with the Kloepfel Consulting team has ended "for the time being". We would particularly like to emphasize the word "for the time being", as we would like to come back to your company at a later date to carry out further projects with you if necessary."
