DHL Group expands new energy logistics further

First and foremost:

As part of its 2030 strategy, Deutsche Post DHL Group is massively accelerating the expansion of its New Energy Logistics. Given the global energy transition and the increasing demand for sustainable energy supply, the logistics group wants to quintuple its revenue in this segment from around €600 million in 2025 to approximately €3 billion by 2030. The company is thus positioning itself as a leading partner for the entire renewable energy supply chain.

Key facts at a glance:

  • Revenue growth in focus: Planned increase in revenue in the New Energy sector from approx. €600 million (2025) to around €3 billion by 2030.
  • Broad spectrum of the energy transition: Development of comprehensive logistics solutions for wind power, battery storage, hydrogen, solar energy, and electric vehicles.
  • Focus on Wind Energy: Introduction of the new „Time Definite Plus“ service for express delivery of spare parts, to minimise downtime even in hard-to-reach wind farms.
  • Battery logistics infrastructure:

    • Construction of a European battery logistics centre in Holtum, Netherlands (17,000 m² storage area), planned commissioning for early 2027.
    • Opening and expansion of further global competence centres for high-voltage batteries.
  • End-to-End Supply Chain: Covering the entire lifecycle of new energy carriers from production to recycling.

DHL focuses on growth in the new energy sector

According to the press release, DHL Group is further expanding its activities in the field of new energy logistics. Having already defined this business segment as a growth area in its Strategy 2030, revenues are set to increase from around 600 million euros in 2025 to approximately 3 billion euros by 2030. The backdrop to this is the globally increasing demands for a secure, resilient and sustainable energy supply, as well as the growing importance of renewable energies.

New logistics solutions for wind energy and electromobility

According to DHL Group, the company is developing comprehensive logistics solutions for various sectors of the energy transition, including wind power, battery storage, hydrogen, solar energy, and electric vehicles. Especially in the wind energy sector, the new „Time Definite Plus“ service is intended to enable the rapid transport of spare parts. According to the press release, this will also make it possible to reliably supply hard-to-reach wind farms, thereby reducing downtime. In addition, DHL has numerous warehouse locations worldwide, ensuring rapid spare parts supply.

Expansion of infrastructure for battery logistics

Furthermore, DHL is continuing to invest in logistics for electric vehicles and high-voltage batteries, according to the company. A new European battery logistics centre with 17,000 square metres of storage space is being built in Holtum, Netherlands, and is scheduled to begin operations in early 2027. In addition, further competence centres for battery logistics have been opened or are under expansion. With innovative transport solutions and a global network, DHL aims to support the entire supply chain of the energy transition, from production to recycling, and to position itself as a leading logistics partner in the new energy sector in the long term.
