Expansion of the logistics area by 23,000 square metres
The German company Siewert & Kau, which is active in the field of IT distribution, has Logistics space in Bergheim by 23,000 square metres to 43,000 square metres plus a further 2,500 square metres for office space. Construction work began in summer 2022 and has now been completed.
This expansion is intended to emphasise the company's commitment to environmentally friendly technology and energy efficiency emphasise. According to the information, the company also relies on a Efficient and sustainable logistics infrastructure.
According to the press release, several challenges had to be overcome during the construction period, such as supply bottlenecks, price increases and a shortage of skilled labour. Nevertheless, the project was successfully realised thanks to good cooperation with the partners and in-house project management.
Heat pumps, solar energy and IT infrastructure
The new halls are ten metres high and meet the KfW 40 efficiency house standard. This means that the building only requires 40 per cent of primary energy. A new building that was only constructed in accordance with the minimum legal requirements requires 60 per cent more primary energy.
Robert Aussem, Technical Manager at Siewert & Kau, explains: „All buildings are insulated and fitted with underfloor heating. Each of the five new halls has a heat pump with an output of around 400 kW.“ The heat pumps are powered by the solar panels on the roofs of the buildings. If the heat pumps generate more energy than required, Siewert & Kau feeds the surplus into the general power grid as green electricity and thus makes it available to other consumers.
„Of course, we planned the entire IT infrastructure and installed it ourselves with partner companies,“ emphasises Aussem. Siewert & Kau also installed the fire and burglar alarm system with full video surveillance itself.
In addition, 150 new wallboxes were installed for charging electric company cars.
