Pentagon accelerates procurement of anti-drone technology with AI platform
The Pentagon is drastically accelerating the procurement of anti-drone technologies through a new AI-powered online marketplace developed in collaboration with the startup Kaizen Laboratories. As part of a 15-million-US-dollar contract, the platform was created in under nine weeks and went live at the end of July 2026. The marketplace is intended to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and enable the military, law enforcement agencies and international partners to compare vetted defence systems more quickly, receive matching AI recommendations and request them directly. In April 2026 alone, counter-UAS purchases worth 13 million US dollars were recorded via the Joint Interagency Task Force 401, while the total order value recently rose to 21 million US dollars.

New digital marketplace for faster procurement
According to the press release, the Pentagon, in collaboration with the software company Kaizen Laboratories, has developed an AI-driven online marketplace for the procurement of counter-drone technologies. The aim is to significantly simplify and speed up the previously complex procurement process. The military, government agencies and law enforcement organisations can use it to search for suitable systems based on their requirements, compare different solutions and submit purchase requests directly. In addition, the integrated artificial intelligence generates relevant product recommendations.
Response to the growing threat from drones
According to JIATF-401, countering unmanned aerial vehicles is becoming increasingly important. This is driven, among other things, by lessons learned from current conflicts, in which drones are playing an ever more significant role. The new marketplace is intended to make operational and tested technologies available more quickly, thereby reducing time-consuming bureaucratic processes. At the same time, users will gain a better overview of available systems and their performance data.
AI should modernise the procurement process
According to the press release, the platform was developed within a matter of weeks and already includes numerous providers of counter-drone systems. In future, further companies are to be able to have their products included following a review. In addition, plans are in place to make the marketplace accessible to international partners as well. According to the Pentagon's assessment, the combination of a digital marketplace and AI support helps to deliver modern defence technologies more quickly and to sustainably improve the operational readiness of armed forces and security authorities.
