The advantages of KLOEPFEL by EPSA - engineering
Practical advice
We come from the industry and know the challenges from our own experience. Our team of technologists and cost engineers brings in-depth expertise and develops solutions that work in everyday life. We focus on solutions that can be implemented quickly and reliably.
Bespoke process optimisation with cost control
Using our in-house developed Cost Control calculation software, we can precisely replicate your specific processes. Our dedicated in-house developers flexibly adapt Cost Control, thereby creating maximum information value and optimisation potential in all areas. The software draws on extensive and diverse databases, for example for material costs, machine rates, and internal charge-out rates. This allows us to provide you with tailor-made solutions that make your costs transparent and enable effective process optimisation. Another advantage: you can work directly with the tool without needing to perform complex data maintenance.
Engineering experience and tool proficiency
By combining tool expertise and engineering experience, we identify cost drivers, holistically evaluate products, and drive product optimisation to sustainably reduce your manufacturing costs. This creates transparency and enables informed decisions for your success.
Making the CO₂ footprint in the supply chain transparent
We are among the few providers on the market that enable a CO₂ assessment at the product level. This provides you with the basis for sustainable decisions and at the same time meets growing regulatory requirements.

Performance components for optimising your manufacturing
Cost management
With our modular cost management service, we support you in systematically identifying, making transparent, and effectively optimising cost potentials – across the entire value chain.
Our four powerful modules are:
• Cost Engineering Through our cost engineering approach, we systematically analyse your products for potential improvements in design, manufacturing, and economics, thereby enabling cost-efficient designs without compromising on function or quality.
• Target Costing: We support you in defining market-oriented target costs and anchoring them as binding control parameters across all departments to ensure cost-conscious product development from the outset.
• Breakdown of Costs We analyse your products in detail, breaking down material, process, and overhead costs transparently. This creates a well-informed basis for decisions regarding price negotiations, discussions with suppliers, and internal profitability analyses.
• Make or buy Using objective data and sound analyses, we support you in the strategic decision between in-house production and external procurement, taking into account costs, risks, capacities, and strategic alignment.
Product Design and Development
Our product design and development service area is modular and offers various methods for optimally combining design with cost-awareness. Our approach merges creative design with economic efficiency, enabling you to create products that are both exciting and profitable.
Our four powerful modules are:
• Design to Cost We integrate cost targets directly into the product development process, from the initial idea right through to the final design. In doing so, we ensure that all decisions are geared towards economic efficiency. This results in a design that not only functions but also makes economic sense.
• Design to Manufacturing Our experts specifically optimise your product development for later manufacturing, in order to simplify processes, reduce production costs, and increase production reliability. We take all relevant manufacturing aspects into consideration to ensure smooth implementation.
• Manufacturing to Cost: We analyse your existing production processes and make hidden cost drivers visible, from material consumption and machinery to personnel deployment. Based on sound data, we develop concrete approaches to reduce manufacturing costs, thereby measurably increasing your production efficiency.
• Product Benchmarking: Through structured comparisons with competitor products, we analyse technical execution, cost structures and marketability. This gives you valuable insights that provide clear impetus for your product strategy and positioning.
Process optimisation and evaluation
Our modular performance area, Process Optimisation and Evaluation, helps you make workflows more efficient and systematically identify potential. This will increase productivity and quality throughout your manufacturing and value chain.
Our two powerful modules are:
• Industrial Engineering: We comprehensively analyse your production and business processes and develop bespoke concepts to increase efficiency. We utilise proven methods to shorten lead times, optimise resource utilisation, and sustainably reduce costs.
• Manufacturing assessment and optimisation We will assess your manufacturing processes in detail, identifying bottlenecks and potential for improvement. Based on these analyses, we will implement practical measures that make your production more efficient, flexible, and cost-effective.
Energy optimisation
This module links cost management with product design and development to minimise energy consumption throughout the entire product lifecycle. We analyse your products and processes for energy efficiency and develop strategies that reduce operating costs while promoting sustainability.
CO2 Footprint
As a link between product design and development, and process optimisation and evaluation, we capture and assess the CO2 footprint of your products and manufacturing processes. This provides the basis for environmentally conscious decisions that support both ecological and economic goals.
Cost Control
uncovers cost drivers
Cost Control helps you reduce product costs while simultaneously increasing product quality. The tool provides transparency over all relevant cost elements in purchasing and manufacturing. This allows you to identify cost drivers early, validate supplier prices, and optimise your processes across the entire value chain.
Cost Control answers questions such as:
- Do you have market-appropriate and fair purchasing conditions, even for special parts or monopolists?
- Do you have full transparency in purchasing and procurement costs?
- Do your suppliers open their calculations transparently and understandably?
- Is your manufacturing optimally aligned with your products?
- Which manufacturing process incurs which manufacturing costs?
- Do you know the cost drivers of your products?
- Are all value creation stages in your supply chain optimally aligned?
Your Benefits with Cost Control:
- Simulate and calculate product costs with all relevant cost drivers.
- Increase the transparency of procurement costs and manufacturing costs to 100 percent.
- Increase procurement efficiency and validate supplier prices.
- Identify cost drivers in the design phase.
- Optimise your manufacturing productivity by choosing suitable manufacturing processes and means.
- Apply the tool flexibly across the entire value chain and in supply chain management.

Customer successes that speak for themselves:
Cost Structure Analysis / Monopolist Negotiation
Our client, a leading manufacturer of drive solutions for conveyor technology, faced continuously rising purchasing prices for a key component: the roller motor, which is used to control logistics conveyor belts. The supplier of the component was effectively a monopolist and regularly implemented price increases. The objective was to create transparency through a detailed cost structure analysis and to develop a well-founded basis for price negotiations. Overall, demonstrable savings potential of €650,000 was identified.
Benchmarking
Our client, the world's leading provider of premium domestic appliances for kitchen, laundry, and floor care, was facing a low profit margin. At the same time, there was a lack of a valid benchmark against competitor products in the market.
The aim was to establish cross-project cost transparency and develop a technically and economically optimised best-practice option. In total, a cross-variant saving potential of €7,000,000 was identified.
Manufacturing optimisation of a chain guide
Our client, the world's oldest printing press manufacturer, develops highly specialised printing systems and associated peripherals. The focus was on a chain guide, the function of which is to precisely guide a chain within the printing press. Previously, the component was manufactured using an elaborate flame-cutting and milling process.
The aim was to create full cost transparency and highlight more economical manufacturing options. Overall, we have realised a documented savings potential of €372,600.
